Ben graduated from Murdoch University with Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communications – Public Relations and Journalism) in 2010.

Ben completed a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with the Australian National University in 2011 and was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Western Australia later that year. Ben has also completed an accredited mediator’s course in accordance with the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) with the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM) in 2015.

In 2016 Ben was certified to practise in the High Court of Australia and in any federal Court.

Prior to joining Amanda Thomas at AL Thomas Law in October 2015 Ben worked for a boutique family law firm in Cottesloe.

Ben and Amanda then jointly began practising as Thomas Gatter in 2018 and is now, along with Amanda, the Legal Practitioner Director of our firm.

Ben has extensive experience in family law in Perth for both children’s and financial proceedings.  He has also been involved in family law proceedings in regional areas of Western Australia including Broome, Geraldton, Bunbury and Kalgoorlie, and has appeared in other Family Courts including Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
